The Red Antiquities Building is lifting off. Located at 129-131 Wellington Street, lift off will happen Wednesday, March 30th around 12 noon. Construction workers have stabilized the building in preparation for it to be moved off of its old, crumbling foundation.  It will be slid on massive I Beams back 60 feet on the building’s property. Excavation of the new basement and foundation will then proceed.

In order to get to this point of the restoration, a lot of work has been done. The chimneys have both been removed and the interior of the building has been documented. Portions of the wallpaper have been removed and preserved under the direction of Keith Bantock, Fine Art Conservator and Laurence Grant, Curator.

Pathways Skill Development and Heritage London Foundation are happy to see the continued progress of the project. Paul Hubert, Executive Director of Pathways Skill Development states “This dramatic move sets the stage for a solid future foundation. Much of the work will be done by construction workers enhancing their skills to return to the job market.”

The campaign goal to fund the project is $250,000 with support from corporations, foundations and individual donors. Fundraising efforts will continue over the next several months to ensure completion of the project.
